The Office of the Children's Commissioner release this report in 2009. This is an excellent, and comprehensive look into Bullying and Violence in schools from a child's perspective. The Commissioner decided to undertake the research after a number of high profile events that had occurred in schools;
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child recognises a child’s right to a safe environment and protection from all forms of physical and emotional harm, including bullying on the way to and from school and while on the school’s premises during school hours
The report looks at the situation with regards to bullying and violence that children face in school, examines the barriers to the provision of a safe school environment currently, identifies ways to support teachers and schools to develop positive school culture, and examines some of the strategies available for future policy development.
The document is long, but well worth the read.
