There seems to be a feeling amongst some adults that young people have no concept of privacy, and no understanding of the issues that opening up private information into public networks can have.
This talk by ethnographer Danah Boyd of Microsoft suggests that research indicates quite the opposite. She highlights a number of different strategies that young people employ to make sure that there privacy is maintained and respected, whilst using public networked spaces. I particularly like her concept that;
"Rather than restricting access to content, young people are restriciting accesss to meaning"
