  • How to get parents to "like" you - facebook in schools

We have been using facebook as a communication tool with our community for 9 months and now have almost 300 followers on facebook.

We started the online strategy as a way to enhance the communication between home and school, promote our enviroschool status and as a way of embracing technology as a tool for learning. We explored online etiquette with parents and teachers, explored what we would and would not post, regularly post about online safety for our children and determined who would be the "voice of the school".

The strategy has been hugely successful, parents now check the facebook page first for updates and catch me in the playground to ask me to post things!

You can follow our progress on my blog and feel free to use the presentations on the wiki if you are interested in using facebook as a social media strategy at your school. Happy fb-ing!

Hi Jane I am sure the fact you had specific goals from the start: connecting with your community and enhancing learning opportunities, contributed to your success. It is clear your strategy included ongoing consultation with staff and community from the beginning. Thanks for sharing these links so we can follow your journey.
