    ACCEPTABLE USE POLICIES (AUP)

A school based user agreement or acceptable use policy (AUP) can form the basis of expectations about responsible use by staff and students. In the past they have often been developed by administrators to define the range of unacceptable actions and consequences.  The rapid changes in technology can mean that an AUP may not address the innovative ways teachers and students will be using technology. Making an AUP a living document: discussed regularly with students, staff, parents and caregivers, can foster community engagement and establish meaningful and agreed ‘codes of practice’.

NetSafe provides AUP  templates for schools to develop  a policy that best  suits their context. NetSafe also provides background information for parents that schools could use to inform and engage family and whanau.
